My grandmother had 2 children before she had my uncle and mother. Both children were diagnosed with Tuberculosis, which still existed in the Netherlands at that time. Both children were hospitalized in the Academic Medical Centre in Groningen. My grandmother couldn’t visit them due to the long traveling distance. They died at the ages of 9 months and 2 years.
Doctor Beijering: “Tuberculosis is the most deadly virus in the world. Almost a quarter of a million children under the age of 15 years died of Tuberculosis, mostly under the age of 5 (80%). Almost none of these children (96%) received tuberculosis treatment.”
